I would like to see what other RHC's do as far as how their clinics are set up with providers, nurses, MA's etc. Looking at making some changes and was looking for some feed back on what seems to work best.

Although most RHCs stick to a traditional model of a dedicated nurse or MA for each provider, we find that our highest producing clinics operate with cross-trained clinical staff that can flex wherever they are needed to catch up the back or help in the front. Your state's licensure and scope of practice guidelines will dictate how or if you can have NPs delegate to unlicensed staff.

We have 1 1/2 APRNs and 1 nurse, but we are new! I plan on adding an MA
when the half time APRN becomes full time. Before we get to the 2 APRN
point I will be helping room patients and do basic medical information to
the extent a pharmacist can!

Does anyone use a pharmacist to perform their AWV? We hear others are doing this but have heard that we aren't able to use a pharmacist to perform it. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Pharmacists are not qualified RHC providers and cannot perform the AWV in the RHC. In the RHC the face to face with a provider is still necessary to qualify as an encounter. In fee for service clinics, ancillary staff may conduct the AWV incident-to the provider. This is not true for RHCs.
